Legal Aid LawLine Temporarily Closed for Upgrade

VLAS has begun upgrading LawLine, the telephone system that all potential clients use to apply for our services. While the upgrade is taking place, LawLine will be closed. LawLine will reopen Monday, Oct. 30.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we’re also excited about the changes designed to improve our clients’ experience with us. When the upgrade is complete, VLAS advocates will be able to send text messages to notify clients of important developments in their cases, among other improvements.

Lynchburg Office Parking & Accessibility

LYNCHBURG, VA – Access to the Lynchburg office during ongoing street construction and utility line work has reduced to one driving lane with limited street parking. VLAS will provide updates as they are available from the City of Lynchburg.

The closest bus stops for access to our office are at Main Street in front of the Holiday Inn Select; Church and Ninth Street; and Court Street near the courthouses.

Clients and visitors may park in two marked spaces on the top deck of the Holiday Inn garage, in the lower or upper parking lots of English Construction off Sixth Street, and on Court Street. For clients or visitors with accessibility needs, please call our office for instructions. For questions or clarifications, please contact our office at 434-846-1326, extension 401; or Public Information Specialist Heather Kennedy with Cella Molnar & Associates, Inc. at 434-944-7104.

Three former clients describe how VLAS made a critical impact on their lives.

Virginia Legal Aid Society is upgrading LawLine, the telephone system that all potential clients use to apply for our services. While the upgrade is taking place, LawLine will be closed temporarily from Wednesday, Oct. 18 through Friday, Oct. 27. LawLine will reopen Monday, Oct. 30.

We are upgrading LawLine to introduce texting to improve client communication. Texting has become a critical tool for our clients, as the percentage of Americans with a smart phone more than doubled from 2011 to 2016, according to Pew Research. Our advocates will be able to remind clients of appointments, court appearances, and critical documents by SMS texting.

The upgrade also will add automated reporting for advocates and managers, better tools for volunteer attorney recruitment and management, and other improvements.
