The Summit will bring together area lawyers for four classes on pro bono work, ethics and other legal issues. The classes, which together will provide four hours of CLE credit upon approval, are:

  • Rule 6.1 and Voluntary Pro Bono Reporting: Ethics, Explanations, and Opportunities, presented by Crista Gantz, Esq., Director of Access to Legal Services, Virginia State Bar.
  • Defending Against Tenant Eviction, by Henry Woodward, Esq., recently retired from Legal Aid Society of the Roanoke Valley.
  • Wills, Trusts, and Estates, by Jonathan Davies, Esq., of Davies & Davies Attorneys at Law.
  • Basic Protective Orders, by Palma Pustilnik, Esq., Director of Sexual Assault Advocacy Services, Central Virginia Legal Aid Society.

Judge Norman Moon, Senior Judge of the United States District court for the Western District of Virginia, will be the luncheon speaker.

Last year’s initial Regional Pro Bono Summit attracted 100 lawyers to Liberty University School of Law, which is once again hosting the event. In the future, Liberty and VLAS plan to present the Summit every two years. Liberty University School of Law and VLAS also partner to offer a law clinic to select students who work on cases for VLAS clients under the supervision of an attorney.
